A set of three books. THE PHILOLOGIST'S LIBRARY: from Chukovsky to Propp Korney Chukovsky High Art. Principles of Artistic Translation “High Art. Principles of Artistic Translation” is one of the most famous works of Korney Ivanovich Chukovsky. It is based on a lecture dedicated to artistic translation that the philologist delivered on January 12, 1919. Subsequently, it was often supplemented, and in 1964 it was rewritten on new material while preserving the main theses of the first edition. This book is a lively and sometimes humorous guide to translation for students of language universities, novice translators, as well as for readers interested in issues of artistic translation. Evgeny Zamyatin The Technique of Artistic Prose. Lectures The lectures delivered by Evgeny Ivanovich Zamyatin almost immediately after the revolution were published for the first time only 70 years later, at the sunset of the Soviet Union. In them, the author of the dystopian novel “We” presents himself from a new side: as a subtle stylist with a keen literary sense, seeing through the text. The reportorial style combines here with philosophical conclusions explaining the plot, narrative, language, imagery, rhythm, and style of the artistic work. The collection also includes two autobiographies of Evgeny Zamyatin, his reflections on the literature of a turning point era, and several novellas mentioned in the lectures. Vladimir Propp Russian Fairy Tale The last monograph by Vladimir Yakovlevich Propp from the series of works dedicated to the fairy tale, “Russian Fairy Tale,” was published for the first time after his death, in 1984. In it, the author summarizes the theses presented in the first two works, “Morphology of the Wonderful Tale” and “Historical Roots of the Wonderful Tale,” and provides detailed information about the history of studying and collecting fairy tales in Europe and Russia, well-known fairy tale tellers who outlined established cultural plots, the structure, development, and varieties of the fairy tale genre.
