But if that’s not enough, such a scientist has another way to leave a memory of themselves: to develop glassware, instruments, or other devices that will bear their name. Over the years, the name of the glassware simply shortens to the scientist's surname – in the laboratory, we rarely say “Liebig's refrigerator”, “Wurtz's attachment”. More often you can hear something like: “Who threw the dirty Wurtz into the sink?” or: “Again, someone broke a leg from Liebig's!” The heroes of this book are devices created by scientists to assist in their research. How many people know who Petri is, the cup whose name is used by both chemists and microbiologists, and who can name offhand who invented a device like the pipette? Whom to mention fondly when we drop drops into our eyes? An associate professor of the Department of High Molecular Compounds and Elemental Organic Compounds of the A. M. Butlerov Chemical Institute.
