More often you can hear something like: “Who threw an unwashed Wurtz in the sink?” or: “Again, someone broke off Liebig’s paw.” The heroes of this book are devices created by scientists to aid their research. How many people know who Petri is, whose cup is used by both chemists and microbiologists, and who can say offhand who invented such a device as a pipette?
