It is no coincidence that at the beginning of the 20th century Marina Tsvetaeva called Akhmatova "Anna of All Russia," and critics dubbed her the "Russian Sappho": it seems that the celebrated poetess embodies all of Russian poetry. In her lyrics and in her life, almost the entire twentieth century is reflected - from the hazy Silver Age to the "thawing" sixties. "She was most interested in whether the poet speaks, whether poetry, Russian poetry, speaks in the language of its time," said Joseph Brodsky about Akhmatova. She herself managed to become the voice of several generations, finding the truest words to express the spirit of the era.

Akhmatova's lyrics continue to captivate and engage readers. The book includes selected poems and narratives, autobiographical prose, and contemporary reviews of Anna Akhmatova.
