Louisa May Alcott is an American writer, author of the famous story “Little Women,” which brought her worldwide fame and still remains one of the most significant works of American literature. As one of the author’s contemporaries wrote, the writer’s work touches the hearts of “young people of any age - from six to sixty.” This edition includes three charming stories by Alcott, not inferior to “Little Women” either in the charm of the main characters or in the wit of the author’s style. The heroine of the story “An Old-Fashioned Girl,” fourteen-year-old Polly, comes to stay with her friend in a luxurious house full of fashionable gentlemen and smartly dressed ladies. However, Polly’s “old-fashionedness,” her kindness and common sense turn out to be much more important than “fashionable skills and manners.” Two stories about Rose (“Rose and Her Brothers” and “Rose in Bloom”) tell the touching story of a girl who lost her parents and was forced to live with her distant relatives. From the first part the reader will learn what amazing adventures and funny pranks will allow Rose to accept and love her new family. In the second part, Rosa turns into a beautiful girl and finds herself in the center of close attention of numerous fans. The texts are accompanied by illustrations by American artists Clara Miller Burd and Harriet Roosevelt Richards.
