Descended from Heaven

All the stories collected under this cover are about the most ordinary people. They lived, loved, joked, mourned. They are history. Masha and Sergey, the characters in the story "Descended from Heaven," fell in love with each other to the sounds of the languorous romance "Oh, Those Black Eyes." But it happened not on the dance floor and certainly not under romantic circumstances. This record was played by the fascists besieging the catacombs where Soviet soldiers found themselves buried alive. The wounded are dying without water, and the medic Masha decides to leave the catacombs. A fascist sniper watches her through the sight. He gives her time to inhale the fresh intoxicating air. To approach the water. To fill a full bucket. The sniper does not take his eyes off this strange couple — a small, fragile girl and an injured soldier who protects her like a faithful knight. The fate of Masha and Sergey’s story depends on him, the sniper: a normal life, work, a family, a son named Vovka. The fate of these people is in his hands. And they seem to have forgotten that there is war and death around them. They love each other; they very much want to live. How much one wishes for this story to have a happy ending. How much one wishes!
