Justice Konrad Vonvalt and his protégé Helena Sedanka return to the capital of the empire. They have been ordered to cleanse the Order of Magistrates of traitors, as the forbidden knowledge that fell into the hands of Father Klaver could... only have been transmitted with the tacit consent of the leaders of the Order. Konrad and Helena understand that the roots of the conspiracy against the emperor extend further, but the kidnapping of the prince, his grandson and heir, disrupts all plans.
