Young doctor Guy Morgan, taking a walk in the notoriously infamous Stowey Forest, slipped, fell into a ravine, and discovered human bones there. Just at that time, Superintendent Alan Markby and Meredith Mitchell arrived in Lower Stowey to inspect a house for purchase. Initially, Markby did not attach much importance to the incident with the doctor, but when a murder occurred in the local church, he suspected a connection between the two events.
