A Room of One's Own

Virginia Woolf (1882–1941) was an English writer, publisher, and literary critic. Woolf is recognized as one of the most important figures of modernism: her exquisite nonlinear narrative style became known as 'stream of consciousness', and her numerous essays and critical articles are considered exemplars of the genre. 'A Room of One's Own' is an essay that grew out of two lectures given by Woolf to students at Cambridge in 1928, which is now considered one of the most significant feminist texts of the twentieth century. It is in this essay that Woolf proclaimed that 'if a woman wants to write books, she needs money and a room of her own'. The text of the essay is published in English without omissions or adaptations.
