The Broken Covenant. Family

The book includes two of the most famous novels by one of the largest Japanese writers of the 20th century, Shimazaki Toson (1872-1943) — "The Broken Covenant" and "Family". The first tells of a carefully hidden sore in Japanese society — about the existence of the caste of "outcasts", the pariahs "eta"; the second novel is about the history of two closely related large patriarchal families, which are disintegrating along with the old feudal way of life.
