This book includes pioneering works created by some of the first domestic Scandinavian scholars – F.D. Batyushkov and S.N. Syromyatnikov: translations and studies of "The Saga of Finnbogi the Strong" and "The Saga of Eric the Red". Relating to the era of the settlement of Iceland, detailing the customs and way of life of the Scandinavians, they can be considered a kind of encyclopedia of the daily life of the first inhabitants of the island. The texts are presented in modern spelling and are accompanied by the compiler's comments.
