Frankenstein or, the modern prometheus

The debut novel of English writer Mary Shelley "Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus" (1818) is rightly considered a masterpiece of romantic Gothic literature, which became the starting point of the science fiction tradition in prose.
Scientist Victor Frankenstein, drifting on an ice floe and rescued by an expedition ship, tells his terrifying story to researcher Walton. Having uncovered the secret of the origin of life and learned to animate lifeless matter, Frankenstein creates an artificial man from parts of corpses. But the unique invention turns into tragedy for the scientist and those around him.
