Moscow - Petushki

Venedikt Erofeev is a bright and ambiguous phenomenon in Russian literature. His famous poem "Moscow-Petushki", written back in 1970, is a kind of philosophical parable, a work outside of time, for Erofeev created in the book his own world, his own universe, at the center of which is "a person, as a meeting point of all planes of being". First appearing in the pages of the magazine "Sobriety and Culture" in 1988, the poem "Moscow-Petushki" became a true revelation for readers and was later translated into many languages of the world.
"In Erofeev's universe, there is no common sense, logic, there is no law, no order. If viewed from the outside, it will remain incomprehensible. Only by immersing oneself in Erofeev's poetics, only by switching to his surreal language, only by becoming one of the characters, ultimately - a co-author, can the reader feel the ideological tension of the philosophical-religious dialogue conducted by the 'leap year people'.
