The Mystery of Lady Audley

Returning home after three years on the Australian goldfields, George Talboys discovers that his beautiful wife Helen has passed away suddenly. Struggling with grief, George accepts his friend Robert's invitation to visit the estate of his uncle — the wealthy and respectable Lord Audley, who has recently married a young governess. However, upon arriving at the estate and seeing the portrait of the newly made Lady Audley, George falls into a nervous state, and the next morning disappears without a trace. Robert begins to suspect that George's disappearance is somehow related to the new Lady Audley. But what is the bride hiding?
