Despite its impressive size, the mammoth does not become a full-fledged fifth player, but during the eclipse phase it competes for territory with the others. It is placed at the intersection of three terrain hexes and affects them. Each time the player gets the opportunity to move sites, instead of moving twice, he can place the mammoth in a new place. This process is similar to setting up communities, but the wild mammoth is not tied to a tribe and walks on its own, so it can stop on any free tiles, including the starting one.

Yes, no caveman would dare to go one-on-one against this colossus. Therefore, if during the eclipse phase you have less influence on the hex than the mammoth, then you will not receive tile bonuses. But if you enlist the support of the tribe and sharpen the tools properly, the mammoth hunt will be successful, and the residents will have enough food for many days. So in the game, if your influence is equal to or greater than the influence of the mammoth, you will not only receive the specified bonus, but also double it.

The mammoth's influence on the hexes it touches is equal to the number of the current round: in the first round it will have 1 influence on 3 adjacent tiles, in the second - 2, and so on. Over the course of the game, its power only grows, forcing players to actively move their positions, move the mammoth figurine and move their convolutions if they want to maintain an advantage. Such an opponent cannot be written off - make the mammoth work for you or ruin the life of your opponent! But do not forget that you will have to pay a considerable price for his movement.

Mammoth does not affect glacier tokens with one-time bonuses, but doubles victory points and fish catches if you are playing with the Rivers and Boats expansion. A nice detail: the place in the organizer of the basic version for the mammoth is already ready! But now you hardly want to leave him in the box, because he will become a welcome participant in every game. The mammoth feels especially good in the company of two players, making the battle for control of territories more dynamic and interesting.
