Arctic Expeditions of John Franklin

In 1845, a British expedition led by the experienced polar explorer Sir John Franklin set out to find the Northwest Passage - a sea route through the Arctic Ocean along the northern coast of North America through the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. The expedition included two ships and was intended to explore a small area of the Canadian Arctic.
The Franklin fleet reached Baffin Bay. It was there, in early August 1845, that the ships were seen for the last time. More than fifty unsuccessful attempts were made to determine their fate. The disappearance of Franklin's ships became the largest Arctic failure in history.
This book tells the story of the expedition's fate, its searches, and the traces found by the 1930s.
This book was first published in 1937 under the editorship of prominent Arctic researcher N. N. Urvantsev by the Glavsevmorput publishing house in the series "Polar Library". It became the first account in Russian about polar explorers of the northern American continent, gathering all available materials at that time regarding both Franklin's expedition and the efforts made to find its traces.
