In an alternate world, society is divided into two classes: dark-skinned Crosses and white Zeros.
Seffi Hadley, the daughter of an official from the Crosses class, gave birth to a child from her beloved, a boy from the lower class of Zeros named Callum. After a tragedy strikes Callum, Seffi cannot imagine how to move forward, as now her little girl is doomed to live under constant threat.
Callum's brother, Jude, wishes to take revenge on Seffi for everything she has done.
