The Fruits of the Earth

The Norwegian writer Knut Hamsun (1859-1952) was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1920 for the novel "The Fruits of the Earth".

The peasant Isaac gradually begins to settle in a remote forest corner, arranging his own household and the space around him. Years go by, time fills them with faces and events: his wife Inger comes and stays by his side, children are born and grow up, and the farm expands. Mistakes, misfortunes, bureaucratic traps, and the envy of outsiders do not spare Isaac's home. One thing remains unchanged - the daily creative hard work. Those who "do not want to keep up with life", "want to outpace it" cast a net of temptations, and not all the heroes manage to evade them, but nonetheless, the main thing remains unchanged, and that is "living in justice and possibilities, living with a trusting and correct attitude towards everything".
