Inessa Rezanova, nicknamed the Countess, spends huge sums of money on restoring an ancient estate and wishes to write a book about the history of her family. The honor of becoming the biographer of the Rezановs falls to the writer Glafira Severtseva, who arrives at the estate to work on the book.
