Black Square. Suprematism. The World as Non-Objectivity
The great Russian artist Kazimir Malevich is one of the key figures of Russian avant-garde, the founder of Suprematism, a theorist of art, philosopher, and educator. He devoted his entire life to the search for and creation of a unique...
direction in painting that reflects his philosophical theory, his view of the cosmos and art. His concept went through several stages of development: Impressionism — Neo-Primitivism — Cubo-Futurism — Suprematism. The last direction — Suprematism — was developed directly by Kazimir Malevich, and his most famous painting 'Black Square', which is still a subject of debate today, became his artistic manifesto. By 1920, a group of devoted students gathered around Kazimir Malevich — UNOVIS (Champions of New Art), who adhered to the same artistic and philosophical views as their teacher. The book includes articles from different years, as well as two major works by the artist — 'Suprematism. The World as Non-Objectivity, or Eternal Peace' and 'From the Book on Non-Objectivity', illustrating his philosophical and creative principles. According to Kazimir Malevich, the new art is associated with the transition 'to a new painterly realism, non-objective creativity', according to which the master must not copy nature, but create his own artistic worlds.
