Alexander Nikolayevich Ostrovsky is one of the most popular Russian playwrights, whose work has had a huge impact on the development of domestic theater: the stage featured ordinary people (merchants, officials, young debaucherers, girls seeking suitors), living with concerns, aspirations, and passions that are close and understandable to audiences of all times. The playwright created almost fifty plays that revealed the Russian national character in its entirety. The publication includes such renowned plays as "Our People - Let's Count!", "Poverty is not a Vice", "The Storm", "The Dowry-less Girl", "The Snow Maiden", which have not left the stage to this day. Ostrovsky's works attract not only theater and film directors but also illustrator artists who strive to bring Ostrovsky's plots to life on the pages of books, conveying the characteristic traits of his characters. Many famous artists have addressed this challenging task, including P. M. Boklevsky, B. M. Kustodiev, and V. M. Vasnetsov.
