Alexey Gan

Alexey Mikhailovich Gan (1893–1942) — one of the creators of Russian Constructivism of the 1920s, the creator of an original theoretical model of constructivism as a socially oriented «intellectual production», a master of constructivist typography, a director of documentary films, the author of the theory of «mass action» in the field of performing arts. He published and typeset the magazine «Kinophot», designed kiosks and movie posters, participated in the creation of the Group of Constructivists, the Association of Modern Architects, and the «October» association.
This book — the first Russian-language monograph about Alexey Gan. Alexander Lavrentiev, an art critic, design historian, professor at the S.G. Stroganov Moscow State University of Arts and Industry, a popularizer of the heritage of Russian avant-garde, and the grandson of Alexander Rodchenko and Varvara Stepanova, compiled a portrait of his hero from manifestos, memories of contemporaries, friends, and colleagues, as well as research and critical works about the preserved or reconstructed creative legacy of Gan.
