The consciousness of our compatriot and contemporary finds itself in a child living in England at the end of the seventeenth century. The heroine, with her parents and a group of students from the school she established, reached Arkhangelsk, where... it became evident that the plans to create a river empire were overly ambitious: foreigners are not allowed to move freely through the lands of Muscovy. She is only permitted to bring goods to and from Arkhangelsk, but venturing into the interior of the country is categorically not recommended. Thus, Sophia Jonathanovna faces a challenging task — to prepare the locals for the creation of a river fleet and establish movement along the rivers and through the portages, while she herself must stay put and not stick her neck out. This is at a time when the restless heroine is irresistibly drawn to travel everywhere and see everything. However, fortune favors the bold. Sophie is categorically unprepared to miss even the slightest chance to achieve her goals.
