The End

August 15, 1953 — a day of tumultuous street carnival in an enclave of Italian immigrants in Ohio. Simple baker Rocco Lagrossa, whose life has long been going awry, receives shocking news of his son's death in a prisoner of war camp in Korea. But he is not the only one filled with anguish. A woman surgeon performing illegal abortions, a mysterious seamstress, a teenager, and a jeweler — all of them will find themselves in the carnival crowd on this festive day — a day that will make each of them rethink everything that is important to them.
