Andrei Rublev. Best Icons

The great Russian icon painter Andrei Rublev was presumably born in 1360. Whether this occurred in Novgorod or elsewhere in the Moscow principality is not known for certain. There is a description of his personality in history: «...he was a... man of good humble nature, filled with joy and brightness».

In the icon - three angels who descended from heaven in the guise of travelers to the patriarch Abraham and his wife Sarah. Abraham was foretold that he would become a father. We see a bowl on the icon, and in it the head of a calf for sacrifice.
The icon connects people to the heavenly world. Icon painters did not encroach on the «sinner's mission» - to paint portraits of saints. The task was more difficult: to create images of mediators between the earthly and heavenly worlds.
