Evmessville

One of the iconic works of post-war Germany and the best novel by Ernst Jünger. A historical-philosophical parable, veiled as dystopia for the sake of engaging reading. The city-state of Evmessville is one of the last strongholds of order and legality on the ruins of a self-destructing human civilization. It is a place of moral freedom, and the population thrives. Opposition is preferred to be not punished, but fed, and the intelligentsia is literally bought with material wealth. For this, it has to pay the humiliating role of "pet of the house," like the narrator of the novel, historian Martin Venator, who serves in the citadel of the ruler of Evmessville, Condor.
