The beginning of the 20th century. The gubernatorial city of Elizavetpol, also known as Ganja, located in the very heart of the Transcaucasia, has never been a quiet place. Gasan — its proud inhabitant, flees from justice far beyond the borders of the Russian Empire only to return home and find himself in the very hell of civil war. The novel describes the events of the Ganja rebellion of 1920, when officers of the Azerbaijani army, inspired by their history — the resistance of the Ganja khanate led by Dzhavad-khan against Russian occupation in 1804, — rose up against the repression and pillaging of the Bolshevik regime.
