Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874-1942) is a Canadian author, best known for her novels about Anne Shirley, a red-haired orphan who accidentally ends up from an orphanage on a farm with elderly brother and sister Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert. "Anne of Green Gables" is the first and most famous of the series of novels about Anne. It was written in 1908 and by the mid-20th century had become one of the most popular works of English-speaking children's literature.
