Let's Survive Until Monday. The Key Without Transfer Rights

The name of Georgy Isidorovich Polonsky (1939–2001) is well known thanks to the films made from his scripts: «Let's Survive Until Monday» (1968), «The Key Without Transfer Rights» (1972), «Don't Leave…» (1989). But Polonsky's texts are valuable in themselves — they are mesmerizing, distinguished by the virtuoso accuracy of their dramaturgy: under the influence of small events, like sand, the characters in his stories change, the truth subtly deforms… An incredible effort may be required to maintain oneself, to go against the grain, to overcome fear or pain. This cloying sweetness is also absent in Polonsky's fictional worlds (the kingdoms of Abidonia or Puhoperonia, for example), and not for nothing are his tales meant for adults. The heroes always follow high ideals. But not every character is a hero. And in the wonderful kingdoms too…
