Chess is a strategic intellectual game. The development of the first rules of the game dates back to the 5th century AD in India, i.e. more than 1500 years ago. There is enough evidence to prove this – numerous excavations... and records in old books testify to it. The game came to Europe about 1000 years ago, to Poland about 800 years ago. Today, chess is a game known all over the world. The classic game of chess is played by two people. The chessboard on which the game is played is divided into 64 squares: light and dark (alternately). The opponents have sets of pieces of different colors, conventionally called - white and black. Each of them consists of sixteen pieces: a king, a queen (also called a dame or queen), two bishops (sometimes called laufer in German), two knights (also colloquially referred to as horses), two rooks, and eight pawns. The most important piece in chess is the king. The goal of the game is to checkmate the opponent's king. The one who does this first wins.
