The People of the Theater
«“The People of the Theater” — this is not research. It is simply reminiscences of those I met when I was still a person of the theater». Vladimir Alekseevich Gilyarovsky (1855–1935) — a true person of the theater. Since 1875,... he traveled with a troupe throughout Russia, and by 1881 he began performing at Anna Brenko's theater in Moscow. Thus arose a «narrative with real names, dates, and locations» about special people who dedicated themselves to the theater: actors, directors, set designers, entrepreneurs, and others. Uncle Gilyai-the chronicler gifted a vivid and bright picture not only of the stages and backstage but also of the entire turn of the 19th–20th centuries.
