Imaginary Portraits.

"Imaginary Portraits" is a collection of bright, fresh, and highly artistic novellas by Walter Pater (also Pater; 1839-1894), united by themes of the value of individual sensory experience, the experience of art as reality with the motif of death. For the Oxford lecturer, art critic, intellectual, and aesthetician, the book became the last completed work of art. Each of the four novellas reflects the peculiarities of life and customs in France, Flanders, Holland, and Germany of the time described in each story. The collection also includes the story "The House of Childhood," excerpts from the novel "Marian the Epicurean," and comments by A. Markov.
