I Met You... Russian Romance

The enchanting charm of the Russian romance leaves no one indifferent: the romance knows no age limits, it has survived the centuries and has not aged. Its emergence in Russia coincided with the golden age of Russian poetry - the... Pushkin era, while its flourishing came at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. The poems of Pushkin, Delvig, Lermontov, Fet, Tyutchev, A.K. Tolstoy, Apukhtin, Blok, and Akhmatova, adapted to music, acquired a different sound - exciting, confessional. The genre of romance was addressed by both esteemed composers (A.A. Alyabyev, M.I. Glinka, P.I. Tchaikovsky, A.G. Rubinstein, G.V. Sviridov) and amateur musicians. The authorship of some popular romances is now impossible to establish. But, having outlived their creators, the best examples of this genre continue to touch listeners - with their heartfelt quality, beauty, and intoxicating combination of music and words.
