Ernest Seton-Thompson entered literature as a writer-animalist: the ideas for his artistic works were inspired by the world of living nature. The heroes of three of his stories: a family of foxes, a pack of wolves, and a mustang -... are wild animals, but their life and fate are described in such a way that it is rather the attitude of people towards them that appears wild. The animals themselves are depicted not only with sympathy, but also with truly human warmth: they are endowed with names, their relationships resemble family ties, and they are ready for self-sacrifice - for each other or for a great idea. The fox fights to the last for her cub, risking her own life. The alpha wolf cannot forget and abandon his friend killed by hunters. The wild mustang cannot imagine life in captivity and chooses the final leap from a steep cliff…
The book is intended to develop reading skills in English for students of 5th-6th grades of a general education school. It contains an English-Russian dictionary of words and expressions that may cause difficulties during reading.
