Ernest Seton-Thompson entered literature as a writer of animal stories: the ideas for his literary works were inspired by the world of living nature. The heroes of his three stories: a fox family, a wolf pack, and a mustang -... are wild animals, but their lives and destinies are described in such a way that it is, rather, human attitudes towards them that appear wild. The animals themselves are depicted not only with sympathy, but also with truly human warmth: they are given names, their relationships resemble family bonds, and they are willing to sacrifice themselves - for each other or for a noble cause. The fox fights to the last for her cub, risking her own life. The leader of the wolf pack cannot forget and abandon his companion killed by hunters. The wild mustang cannot imagine life in captivity and chooses the final leap from a steep cliff…
The book is intended for developing reading skills in English for students of the 5th-6th grades of a general education school. It contains an English-Russian dictionary of words and expressions that may pose difficulties when reading.
