Pilgrimage; Old Valaam

Ivan Shmelev 1873 - 1950 – Russian writer, thinker, publicist. Twice nominated for the Nobel Prize. Author of well-known works The Sun of the Dead and The Summer of the Lord. The collection includes two stories united by the theme of Orthodox pilgrimage. In Pilgrimage, the author's childhood memories of a trip to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra – an ancient Russian monastery founded by Sergius of Radonezh. Old Valaam - the journey of the already grown-up Ivan Shmelev with his young wife to a unique Orthodox monastery – Valaam Monastery.
