Ghost in the Shell

A classic of cyberpunk, the world-famous manga by Shirow Masamune (the real name of the mangaka - Masanori Ota) about the activities of Section 9, which fights against cyber and ordinary terrorists in Japan during the first third of the... 21st century, is one of the most important works representing the new reality of the near future, where machine intelligence and the immortal human soul become one in «the armor» of consciousness. Beginning its publication in May 1989 in Young Magazine, the manga gained cult status, inspiring many imitators. The author himself was inspired by Arthur Koestler's work «The Ghost in the Machine», which, in turn, absorbed Descartes' ideas about the dualism of mind and body.
A famous 1995 anime was based on the manga, and video games were developed.
