Syntax of the Ancient Indian Language: Cases. On the Agreement of Parts of Speech, on the Use of Numbers and Cases

In "Syntax" (1883) by the Czech polyglot V. I. Shertsl, the use of cases in Sanskrit is explored based on texts spanning a period of 3000 years. More than 4500 quotes (in transliteration and with translation) from 60 sources are presented - from the hymns of the Rigveda to medieval poetry. The works of European philologists from the "Indologist" G. Wilson to the comparativist B. Delbrück are considered, as well as traditional views of Indian grammarians (Panini's sutras), although syntax is the least developed section in their works. The original work in Russian has not been adequately appreciated, and the reprint is intended to rectify this historical injustice.
