From the Apennines to the Andes

The story "Heart" by Edmondo De Amicis, which first appeared in 1886, instantly gained popularity among Italian readers and was soon translated into dozens of languages worldwide.
One of the most vivid fragments of the work is a sort of "story within a story," an essay by the main character titled "From the Apennines to the Andes"; a dramatic tale of a thirteen-year-old boy from Genoa, who, in search of his beloved mother, bravely crossed the Atlantic and, finding himself in Argentina, traveled many hundreds of miles through an unfamiliar country, among strangers; a narrative that is unlikely to leave anyone indifferent.
The text of the work is adapted using Ilya Frank's method: it is provided with a literal translation into Russian and necessary lexical-grammatical commentary (without simplifying the original text). The uniqueness of the method lies in the fact that memorization of words and expressions occurs through their repetition, without cramming or the need to use a dictionary. Furthermore, the reader becomes accustomed to the logic of the Italian language, beginning to "feel" it.
