Less than one

This book includes selected essays by Joseph Brodsky (1940-1996), the great poet, translator, playwright, and recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature (1987). This collection was first published in New York in 1986 and was awarded the National Book Critics Circle Award. Most of the texts were written by Brodsky in English, and only a few of them were written in Russian. A number of translations were authorized and published during the author's lifetime. For this edition, a new translation of the essay "One and a Half Rooms" was done by Maxim Nemtsov, in which Brodsky recalls his parents, his youth, and the famous Muruzi house in Leningrad, where he lived until 1972 and from where he was forced to emigrate.
