Across the Atlantic by Balloon

No one has come so close to the goal of crossing the Atlantic in a hot air balloon as two Englishmen – 37-year-old engineer Donald Cameron and Major Christopher Davey. On Wednesday, July 26, 1978, their bright yellow balloon "Zanussi", nearly 50 meters in diameter, soared into the sky over the Canadian island of Newfoundland.

The red gondola, four and a half meters long, was shaped like a lifeboat and could save the crew in case of an emergency landing. Despite the fact that the balloon was forced to land just 100 kilometers short of its target, the flight became an example of careful technical, organizational, and psychological preparation for the expedition. The book is being published for the first time in Russian and is intended for a wide audience.
