Mr. Watson, a gout-ridden widowed priest, is burdened with a sizable family: it's no joke, two sons and four daughters ready for marriage! Indeed, the youngest daughter, Emma, was raised under the care of a wealthy uncle, but after his death, the girl has to return to her parental home. The character of the middle sisters, consumed by reckless pursuits for husbands, disturbs Emma, but she immediately finds common ground with her older sister, Elizabeth. Sweet and kind Emma quickly attracts the attention of the local society, but soon she will have to combat many temptations to not lose herself.
The best works of Jane Austen (1775–1817) continue to maintain global popularity even today, but this novel has an unusual fate: the writer only sketched out a plot line, which half a century later was creatively developed by her niece Catherine Hubback (1818–1877), born Austen, who created a wonderful book in the best traditions of her famous aunt.
