The Sign of the Four. The Return of Sherlock Holmes

The English physician and writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is known throughout the world as the unmatched master of the detective genre, the author of numerous works about the brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes and his faithful friend Dr. Watson. The classic translations of these stories and novels, made long ago by many different translators, suffer from well-known deficiencies: discrepancies, omissions, blatant errors. We present to your attention the third volume (the novel ‘The Sign of the Four’, the collection ‘The Return of Sherlock Holmes’) of the four-volume set with a complete translation of the entire Holmes canon. Additionally, each volume is equipped with a large number of classic drawings and supplementary materials: prefaces to early publications, memories of Conan Doyle regarding various works, some interviews of the writer. Plus, this volume is accompanied by extensive commentaries. This book includes the complete set of illustrations by Sidney Paget that accompanied the original publication of ‘The Return of Sherlock Holmes’ in the magazine ‘Strand’, as well as illustrations by Richard Gutsmidt for an early German edition of ‘The Sign of the Four’.
