There are at least a hundred ways to breathe. Perhaps even more. Why do we categorize some types of breathing as passive and others as active? Can breath-holding be a rest from intense breathing activity?
Breath movements are extremely diverse. Most often we do not notice them because they occur unconsciously and overlap with other body movements that are performed for purposes unrelated to breathing.
All forms of breathing are originally based on two basic mechanisms and their variations, allowing for all sorts of combinations.
This book allows you to explore breath movements, their sequence, the anatomical structures involved, and the forces at work, as well as practice through numerous exercises.
As you read, you will come to the conclusion that no single way of breathing can be called right or wrong on its own. Each of them is uniquely suited to certain circumstances for achieving different goals.
The reader is invited to rethink many widely held myths and biases about the functioning of muscles during the breathing process.
