Wings Behind the Back

The city-state of Radezhda is divided among five sects, each worshipping its own god. Young Zemolai, born into the sect of scribes, dreamed from an early age of becoming a warrior, joining the sect of their god, and gaining the... right to wings to protect the citizens of the city she loved. Zemolai's dream comes true; she has wings behind her back, and for twenty-six long years she faithfully serves in the winged army. But one day everything collapses. Returning from another duty, she commits an act incompatible with the strict norms established for them by the deity. She shows mercy, an unacceptable act of compassion towards a person worshipping a foreign god. And she immediately loses everything for which she lived. Trying to understand what happened, Zemolai begins to realize that the state she defended and the gods, slumbering somewhere in the heavens, are not the foundation on which the world stands, and the only thing left for her is to side with those who oppose this tyranny.
