Tolbukhin is the oldest lighthouse in Russia, established by the personal decree of Peter I in 1719. The original name was "Kotlin". In 1736, it was renamed in honor of the first commandant of Kronstadt, F.S. Tolbukhin. Originally located on... an artificial islet, the lighthouse was wooden; in 1810, a brick tower and adjoining structures were built, which have survived to this day. The lighthouse has a rich history, and many samples of new lighthouse equipment were tested and applied there. During the Great Patriotic War, the lighthouse garrison conducted aerial observation and artillery reconnaissance, detecting the positions of enemy guns that were shelling the besieged Leningrad.
