The Southern Hogland Lighthouse is a lighthouse built on Hogland Island in the Gulf of Finland. Translated from Swedish, "Hogland" means "High land." Currently, a special pass is required to visit the island, and the waters around it have a... dismal reputation: several dozen ships have sunk around the island. The lighthouse was founded in 1861, and the current brick tower was erected in 1905. In 1872, the first pneumatic siren in Russia was installed at the lighthouse - a device that produces a sound signal in conditions of poor visibility of the lighthouse light.
