Russian History

The main contribution to science by the prominent Russian historian, publicist, journalist, and academician Konstantin Nikolaevich Bestuzhev-Ryumin (1827—1897) is considered to be his monumental work "Russian History". In it, he acts as a strict researcher, adhering to the principle of historical objectivity. By gathering and comparing events from Russian history, K. N. Bestuzhev-Ryumin separates external facts from domestic and cultural history; the scholar maintains a calm and impartial position regarding historical events and refrains from categorical conclusions as much as possible. He pays particular attention to the forms of family, social, state, religious, and literary life, points out the most important historical works, and compares different opinions on each issue. The author primarily addressed his book to those who are embarking on a deep and independent study of Russian history. For a long time, the publication served as a useful reference guide for novice researchers, and it remains relevant even today.
