The Prince

A symbol of diplomatic cunning, a treasure trove of knowledge about the state and power, an inexhaustible source of political wisdom.

Niccolò Machiavelli wrote "The Prince" in the 16th century, when his native Florence was fiercely at war with other republics during the Italian Wars. In the treatise, he condemned the unscrupulous actions of tyrannical rulers, described the image of a wise ruler, and formulated a whole set of ideas about ideal state governance. Many of them remain relevant to this day.
