Film Theory. A Brief Guide

This small book introduces the reader to the main currents and research of film theory, as well as the stages of the evolution of cinema: the invention of the first camera and the works of the Lumière brothers, the influence... of psychoanalysis and feminism on film criticism, Hollywood and genre cinema, "Third Cinema" and postmodernist theory. The "Guide" is structured in the format of a script for an imaginary film and consists of dialogues between a student, his professor, directors, critics, and philosophers, while the text by Richard Osborn, a professor of theory and philosophy of art at London University, is accompanied by amusing sketches by artist Angie Brew.
