Something is wrong with the Galvins. An ideal family shattered by madness

The Galvins seemed like a model American family. The father is a soldier, the mother a homemaker, both actively involved in the public and social life of their state and country. Twelve children—ten boys and two girls—are the pride of the family; they are talented and hold great promise. Suddenly, the eldest son, a successful university student, is diagnosed with schizophrenia. Over the next few years, five more of the Galvin sons are found to have this serious illness. Then the hell begins: it turns out that behind the perfect facade a far from perfect life was hidden: physical and sexual abuse, drugs—but the parents, Don and Mimi, turned a blind eye to what was happening until the end. All of this inevitably leads to tragic consequences and the disintegration of family members. For several decades, scientists, psychiatrists, and geneticists have been grappling with the mystery of the Galvin family, proposing various hypotheses. But will they be able to find the answer and offer hope to millions of people?
